Should I choose a more prestigious school (non-Ivy League) or a less prestigious school’s honors program?
I’ve been accepted into a “Public-Ivy” university, that I have really wanted to go to for 2 years. Before I got accepted I was worried that I would be rejected so I applied to a less academically challenging university. I knew that if I ended up going to my safety school that I would want to be in their honors program, so I applied for honors and scholarships. I have gotten into the Honors program and invited to interview for scholarships. I’m probably not going to receive any scholarships at my top choice school, and I haven’t been accepted into their honors program ( although, I can reapply after a few semesters, or complete an honors thesis to graduate with honors if I want to) My mom says that going to my safety’s Honors Program would be a good opportunity for me, and she likes the fact that I have a realistic chance at scholarships there. I know this is true, and I know that it’s not practical to turn down free money, but I have applied to non-university affiliated scholarships, and I really want to go to my first choice. I feel that if I did receive a scholarship at my safety, that I would feel obligated to attend. I know that this is a lot of information, but this is a huge decision that I have to make, and I would appreciate any advice you may have on my situation, especially if you have had to make a similar decision. Thank you! I look forward to reading your advice.
