How do people make money with web sites without affiliate programs or advertising?

Author: I have curiosity about my research on blogs, how to make money from a site is selling advertising, affiliate programs, merchandise sales, donations and so on. However, there are sites that do not use one of these methods (eg, Wikipedia. Com, Etsy. Com, itsasickness. Com.) How can they make money?
